We are often told that history is something that happens to us a series of events recorded in books that we simply inhabit.
I am here to challenge that notion. History is not a spectator sport. It is a canvas, and technology is the brush. Today, we are not here to merely discuss economic development; we are here to design it.
The Anatomy of Our Challenge
We must be honest about the gravity of our situation. Poverty is a systemic thief.
It steals time, it steals health, and most tragically, it steals the human imagination. In the bustling streets of Kampala and the industrial hubs of South Africa, we see the same paradox: incredible human capital trapped by outdated infrastructure.
For decades, the global economy has moved at the speed of light, while many of our local systems have moved at the speed of bureaucracy.
This gap is where poverty lives. To close it, we cannot rely on the slow, linear growth models of the past. We need a technological explosion.
Technology as the Engine of Liberation
When I speak of technology, I am not talking about gadgets. I am talking about agency.
In Uganda: We are leveraging digital connectivity to bridge the gap between rural production and urban markets.
In South Africa: We are looking toward advanced automation and AI to revitalize industries and create high-value roles for a new generation of workers.
Economic development occurs when the cost of starting a business drops and the reach of that business expands.
By deploying frontier tech like satellite-based internet and AI-driven logistics we are effectively shrinking the continent, making it easier for a creator in one corner of Africa to trade, collaborate, and grow with another.
